About our panelists:
Liz Eden, ChristchurchNZ
Liz Eden is the Business Attraction Manager at ChristchurchNZ and also has responsibility for the city’s Aerospace and Future Transport Supernode.
Liz is passionate about creating a city that is future-proofed for the next generation and works with industry, tertiary and central government to drive awareness of Christchurch and the opportunity that exists here. Liz is a firm believer that Christchurch and Canterbury offer the perfect test bed conditions for start-ups and large organisations for aerial and autonomous vehicle testing.
Stefan Powell, CTO & Co-founder, Dawn Aerospace
Stefan Powell has been building rockets since his early student years and spent his entire career in both rocket and satellite start-ups that push the envelope, including being on the Rocket Lab team testing the first firings of the electron rocket. CTO of Dawn Aerospace, Stefan now heads various technical teams building reusable launch vehicles and new space transportation technologies. A Kiwi at heart with a dash of Dutch eccentricity, Stefan is currently spending his spare time exploring all ways his green thrusters can be used to cook the company’s weekly BBQ or dance the dance to classic music.
Stephen Morgan, Greenstage
Out of a foundation formed in production, design, operations, automation and management within the Heavy Transport industry, Stephen moved into Automotive, Greentech, and Start-ups.
His journey has covered everything from Sidelifters (Steelbro), to automotive components (ADV Manufacturing – Bentley Projects Team), vertical surface robotic crawlers (Invert Robotics), to electric sports cars (Lightning). Current Greenstage projects include a partnership on renewable energy optimisation with a New York based company, and hybrid bus prototypes in India.
Stephen holds a B.Tech (Manufacturing and Industrial) from Massey University. His work in the Christchurch community has included helping establish and run an Earthquake Support Centre in New Brighton, and being a current Board Member of Workplace Support.
Gary Freedman, Founder and CEO Electric Air
Gary Freedman is the Founder and CEO of ElectricAir, a company that launched the first passenger carrying electric plane into New Zealand.
With over two decades of experience in the renewable energy industry and a similar time spent flying various small aircraft, Gary brought his two passions together. Gary says electrification of transport is the low hanging fruit for New Zealand to decarbonise and is keen to see all transport on the road, sea and air electrified as soon as possible.
