The Minister of Transport has appointed Mike Rudge, Chair of ITSNZ to the board of the New Zealand Transport Agency. An exciting opportunity for Mike and for the sector who will now have a high-level representative with an intimate understanding of Intelligent Transport Systems and the potential of tech-enabled solutions to accelerate better transport outcomes.

Mike has been Chair of ITSNZ since 2019, and has over 35 years of infrastructure management and development experience in New Zealand, the Pacific and Asia. Mike was an early adopter and innovator in Infrastructure Asset Management and prior to becoming a independent consultant he was Stantec’s lead for ITS and Analytics across Australia and NZ. Mike is also former Chair of the REAAA NZ Chapter.

The appointment requires that he step down from the ITSNZ board immediately. ITSNZ will begin a process to identify a new Chair for the board and will announce that soon.

Below is an excerpt of the press release from the Minister of Transport, Hon. Simeon Brown, announcing the appointment.

New Members Appointed To The NZTA Board
    Friday 1st November
“Transport Minister Simeon Brown has today announced two new appointments to the New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) Board.

Mary-Anne Macleod and Mike Rudge have both been appointed as members for three-year terms commencing 1 November 2024 and ending 31 October 2027.

“Transport is a critical part of our Government’s plan to boost productivity and rebuild the economy. NZTA has a significant role to play in delivering our Government’s ambitious work programme, increasing road maintenance and building a new generation of Roads of National Significance to get Kiwis where they want to go, quickly and safely.

“With backgrounds spanning governance, engineering and transport technology, I am confident that the NZTA Board has the right mix of skills and experience to deliver our Government’s priorities and the transport infrastructure that our country needs, at pace and in a way that achieves value for money.”
