Embarking on her journey in the Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) industry at the age of 19, Shannyn commenced her career at HMI Technologies as a receptionist, swiftly transitioning into a business development role. Demonstrating a unique ability to communicate the national ITS vision and goals in an accessible manner, she excelled at removing technical jargon and highlighting human-centered designs, fostering connections beyond the industry. Over the past 12 years, Shannyn has collaborated with innovative ITS providers, with a significant six-year tenure at HMI/Ohmio that included active participation in ITS World Congresses in Melbourne and Montreal. Simultaneously, she pursued a Bachelor in Business, Majoring in Management from Massey University, balancing full-time work with evening studies, supported by the HMI team.

Subsequently, Shannyn delved into software with Mooven, addressing congestion and disruption issues throughout Aotearoa. More recently, she worked with road safety barrier supplier Ingal, acquiring expertise in innovative barrier equipment to enhance safety on the network. Currently, Shannyn is a valuable member of the dedicated Urban Connection team, contributing to national road safety projects across New Zealand.

For Shannyn, the belief that the infrastructure we build today shapes the legacy for the next generation is paramount. This conviction has fuelled her genuine passion for addressing challenges within Aotearoa’s road and transport network. She invests time in articulating how to enhance community connectivity, safety, and sustainability through ITS integrations, recognizing the profound impact on the future.
