We would like to convey the sad new of the passing of Peter McCombs, former Chairman of ITSNZ.
A mentor and friend to many in the ITS community, Peter was extremely well-liked and will be missed.
Peter was an influential Chairman of ITSNZ from 2013 through to 2016. During that time he was instrumental in ITSNZ winning and hosting the 2014 ITS Asia-Pacific forum, going on to co-chair of ITS Asia-Pacific Board.
Peter’s career had many more remarkable achievements over the years including
• Founding Traffic Design Group in the 1970’s
• Establishing and being the first chair of the IPENZ transportation group
• Becoming the International Director for the Institute of Transport Engineers
• Directing the rollout of the Traffic Demand Management Ramp Metering project in Auckland, at the time New Zealand’s most high-profile ITS project
Our members will remember Peter fondly as a great engineer and leader who built meaningful relationships, an inspiration and mentor to colleagues he was an eloquent speaker and moderator, organiser, and an all-around gentleman and good guy.
In 2017, ITSNZ awarded Peter McCombs a life membership for leadership, his investment of time, passion and energy, and his achievements in advancing our industry.
Our sincere condolences go to his wife Beverley, his family and close friends.
