Heidi Hughes

Heidi is the director of The Wednesday Challenge Project, which aims to inspire and enable people move away from single occupancy car use.
The project is in it’s first pilot year in Tauranga and has over 10 percent of residents participating in the challenge.
Heidi has a postgraduate in Sustainable Practice and has a long history of advocacy for alternative transport modes. She has been an initiator of many projects including festivals and cultural events aimed at encouraging participation and developing a sense of community and positive engagement.
More recently she was a city councillor where she developed an understanding of the barriers and opportunities for change in our current system.
Her interest lies in the potential for mode shift to unlock opportunities for social connection and environmental regeneration.
