James Aston

James is a maritime professional working as the Ferry Transition lead for Auckland Transport focusing on the shift to decarbonizing Auckland’s ferry fleet. James is currently engaged in the AT low emission ferry programme working with a range of stakeholders both internal and external including the shipbuilders, vessel and landside designers and ferry operators to deliver the four exciting new low emission ferries AT has currently under construction in New Zealand.

James is passionate about the role ferries play in Tāmaki Makaurau and a strong advocate for improving ferry services and the customer experience for ferry users. Over the course of his career James has held a variety of marine based roles from composite boatbuilder, marine engineer, skipper and marine manager. James has been with Auckland Transport for 5 years in ferry services and the fleet and infrastructure team.
