James Howard

James has brought new ideas to Tranzit since starting with Tranzit 10 years ago as a university graduate. Since then, he has led several complex and innovative projects within the bus and coach industry.

He has practical, hands-on experience dealing with the energy sector and key stakeholders, including lines companies, to secure enough capacity to charge our current fleet of electric buses as well as future proof our business. Ensuring that Tranzit is at the leading edge of electric vehicle and charging technology continues to be a core focus, travelling overseas to investigate and understand new and emerging technologies. He has been key part in Tranzit operating more than 100 electric buses (150+ by the end of 2024), and the deployment of more than 4 megawatt of charging infrastructure, across New Zealand.

In March this year, and in partnership with Horizons Regional Council, James lead a project to launch New Zealand’s first 100% electric bus network into the provincial city of Palmerston North. Specifically, he lead the successful procurement of 42 new electric buses and 1 megawatt of charging infrastructure. Notably, Palmerston North was the first Australasian city to have a 100% zero emission public transport fleet.
