My name is Junran Wang. I hold a Master’s degree from the University of Nottingham (UK) and am currently pursuing a PhD in Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Auckland. My research contributes to the development of a digital twin for New Zealand’s transport systems, with the goal of improving network resilience.
At the current stage, I focus on understanding how bridges are recovered after natural disasters such as earthquakes and cyclones. In particular, I analyse how different failure mechanisms—including landslides, foundation settlement, liquefaction, and under-slip displacement—lead to varying recovery strategies and institutional responses.
In the next phase, I plan to use Discrete Event Simulation (DES) or Agent-Based Modelling (ABM) to simulate this recovery process. Ultimately, my research aims to use these models to support disaster decision-making by identifying which bridges should be prioritised for repair to optimise transport network functionality and resilience.
