Mark Walker

Mark is a transportation engineer and experienced project manager who has had the opportunity to work on transport technology projects in New Zealand, Australia, the USA and Europe. Mark advocates for collaboration between the public and private sectors to develop systems based on open standards that enable safer, smarter and more sustainable mobility.
Recent experience includes the development and operation of co-operative ITS services in Europe, with deployments in the Netherlands, United Kingdom, Belgium, Sweden and Finland. Services included road user charging, priority for sustainable modes of transport, measures to reduce vehicle emissions and driver alerts to increase awareness of potential hazards.
Mark’s previous roles include Group Manager (Design) and Infrastructure Development Manager positions at Auckland Transport and time with Waka Kotahi New Zealand Transport Agency implementing and operating the Traffic Management Unit (now ATOC).
Mark is passionate about transforming mobility to provide safer, more efficient and more sustainable options for everyone. He is currently contributing to the ITS New Zealand working group on intelligent transport systems and enjoys applying the knowledge and experience he has gained overseas to the New Zealand context.
