Matthew Diemer and Werner Pretorius

Matthew Diemer is a seasoned mobility planner with expertise in multimodal network planning, public realm design, and transport equity. He holds a PhD in Urban Design and Regional Planning from Monash University and has delivered public transport, cycling, and streetscape revitalisation initiatives across Los Angeles, Melbourne, Seattle, and Auckland. At Auckland Transport, Matthew leads the development of Future Connect, the region’s long-term network plan, as well as the Roads and Streets Framework, Auckland’s movement and place strategy. He also co-authored the Auckland Transport Equity Framework, which guides fair and inclusive transport investment. His work focuses on aligning transport planning with place-based outcomes – helping agencies deliver infrastructure that supports vibrant, liveable communities.
