    Michael Milford

    Joint Director and Professor
    QUT Centre for Robotics

    Professor Michael Milford conducts interdisciplinary research at the boundary between robotics, neuroscience and computer vision and is a multi-award winning educational entrepreneur. His research models the neural mechanisms in the brain underlying tasks like navigation and perception to develop new technologies in challenging application domains such as all-weather, anytime positioning for autonomous vehicles. He has led or co-led projects collaborating with leading global organizations including Amazon, Google, Intel, Ford, NASA, Harvard, Oxford and MIT. He is also passionate about engaging and educating all sectors of society around new opportunities and impacts from technology including robotics, autonomous vehicles and artificial intelligence. Professor Milford’s educational company Math Thrills creates and hijacks movie and book entertainment to create engaging STEM-based educational resources, with customers in 35 countries. He has received numerous international and national awards including a Microsoft Research Faculty Fellowship, the ATSE Batterham Medal and Queensland Young Tall Poppy of the Year, and has repeatedly been named top robotics researcher in Australia by The Australian Research Magazine. He currently holds the positions of Australian Research Council Laureate Fellow, Joint Director of the QUT Centre for Robotics and QUT Professor of Robotics.
